CertiKit alternative: comparison of CertiKit and Governance Docs toolkit pricing

CertiKit Alternative: The Best Options Before It Closes in 2026

On 1 September 2026, CertiKit announced that it is closing. Founder Ken Holmes is retiring after forty years in IT and fifteen years running the business, and two attempts to sell the company did not complete. Their toolkits were good and they served a lot of people well, so this is not a victory lap. It is a practical problem with two hard deadlines attached.

If you own a CertiKit toolkit, if you were about to buy one, or if you built a consultancy practice on them, this guide covers what happens next and what a CertiKit alternative actually needs to replace.

CertiKit alternative: the closure timeline and what stops working on each date
Two dates matter. Only one of them is about buying.

What happens, and when

The dates below come from CertiKit’s own published retirement notice. Nothing here is inference. Anyone shopping for a CertiKit alternative should plan around them rather than around the closing sale.

Date What changes
September 2026 The ISO 9001 revision is their final content update. Nothing follows it: no ISO 14001:2026, no future Annex A changes, no regulatory revisions.
30 October 2026, 17:00 UK Online sales stop. After this date the toolkits cannot be bought from anyone, at any price.
18 December 2026, 17:00 UK The website goes offline. No account access, no invoices, no re-downloads, no support.

The intellectual property moves to CertiKit’s parent group company and there are no authorised resellers, so the toolkits will not reappear under another brand. Existing licences are perpetual and survive the closure, which is the part worth being clear about: you keep what you bought.

If you already own a CertiKit toolkit

Two things are worth doing this month, both of them small and both of them impossible after 18 December.

Download every file again and store it somewhere you control. Not a browser download folder, and not a link in an old order email. A location your organisation will still have in three years, because that is roughly the horizon over which an auditor may ask where a document came from.

Save your invoices. Licence provenance is a routine question in certification audits and in supplier due diligence, and after the site closes there is no account to log into and nobody to email.

What you lose is maintenance. When a standard is revised, and several are mid-revision right now, nobody is updating your templates. That is the gap a replacement has to fill, not the documents themselves.

If you were about to buy from them

Be clear about what you would be buying: a document set frozen from this month onward, with support ending on 18 December. If your certification audit is eight weeks away and the documents match your scope, that can still be a reasonable trade. If your horizon runs past this year, you are buying a document set with no future.

If you are a consultant on their scheme

You built a delivery practice on toolkits that will not be updated and cannot be re-bought. Client engagements starting in 2027 will run on documentation whose last revision was September 2026, and you will be the one explaining that to a certification body.

Our Consultant Package is the direct replacement: the whole catalogue under one firm-wide licence for $1,399, updated as the standards move.

What CertiKit charged, what we charge, and how the document sets compare

Price is the first thing people check in a CertiKit alternative, so here it is without spin. Document counts on both sides are counted from the published document lists rather than from marketing copy, and CertiKit prices are as published on their site on 6 September 2026.

Framework CertiKit price CertiKit docs Our price Our docs
ISO 27001 £595 172 $99 165
ISO 27701 £595 147 $99 82

Every toolkit publishes its full document list on the product page before you buy, with no gated PDF and no request form. Editable Word and Excel throughout, perpetual licence, no seat limits, instant download, twelve months of free updates and a 30 day refund policy.

Sixty-six frameworks CertiKit never covered

A CertiKit alternative only has to match nine frameworks, because that is all they sold. That was a deliberate, focused catalogue and it worked well for the organisations whose obligations stopped there. If yours run into financial regulation, medical devices, US federal contracting or AI governance, they had nothing for you. Every toolkit below is $99.

Choosing a CertiKit alternative

Whoever you move to, three questions decide which CertiKit alternative is the right one, and only one of them is about price.

Is the document set maintained? ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are both revising in 2026, ISO 27701 moved to a 2025 edition, and the EU AI Act timetable shifted again. A frozen toolkit is a liability on a two year certification cycle. Ask when the last revision shipped and what triggers the next one.

Can you see the contents before you pay? A vendor that gates its document list behind a form is asking you to buy on trust. Every list on this site is published on the product page.

Does the licence match how you work? Perpetual or subscription, single site or firm-wide, seat limits or none. CertiKit’s perpetual licence is the reason their customers still hold usable documents today, and it is the model worth insisting on.

Where to go next

Not sure which toolkit replaces the one you own? Send us your CertiKit document list and we will map it across for you, document by document, so the CertiKit alternative you land on covers the same ground.

Closure dates and terms on this page are taken from CertiKit’s published retirement notice of 1 September 2026 and their product pages as at 6 September 2026. Governance Docs has no affiliation with CertiKit.
