Description
About the SQF Edition 10 Toolkit
SQF Edition 10 is the new version of the Safe Quality Food Code from SQFI, published in March 2026. For food manufacturers, the Food Manufacturing Code is three things: Part A, which sets out how certification works; Module 2, the system elements every site must have; and Module 11, good manufacturing practice for processing food products.
The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit is built on exactly that structure. Its 18 sections follow the Code one for one, so when an auditor works an element you can hand over the matching folder.
When Edition 10 starts, and why the records matter
SQFI says Edition 10 audits will not begin before 2 January 2027, and the start depends on GFSI benchmarking of the new Code. Until then, Edition 9 remains the SQF Code you are audited against. We keep this page in line with SQFI’s announcements.
The date that matters more is earlier. In Part A, A2:7, SQFI recommends at least 90 days of records before an audit during an edition change. A site that starts keeping Edition 10 records the month before its audit cannot show that. The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit’s Implementation Plan counts back from your audit date for that reason.
Every requirement, with a named document behind it
The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit covers:
| Part of the SQF Code | What the pack covers |
|---|---|
| Part A: Implementing and Maintaining the Code | A1 and every section from A2:1 to A2:35 |
| Module 2: System Elements | 31 elements, 94 requirements |
| Module 11: GMP for Processing of Food Products | 33 elements, 164 requirements |
Every Word document opens with a table of the SQF requirements it answers. The build that produced the pack fails if any Part A section or any of the 258 requirements is left without a document. That is a check we run, not a claim we make.
The Edition 10 Gap Assessment workbook arrives pre-loaded with 294 rows: every Part A section and every Module 2 and Module 11 requirement. Each row carries its Mandatory and Core Clause flags, what changed from Edition 9, and the toolkit document that answers it. Add your status, gap, action, owner and due date, and the summary by section fills itself in.
The eleven Core Clauses, scored the way Edition 10 scores them
Edition 10 names eleven elements as Core Clauses, and findings against them cost more. Under Part A, A2:19, a minor finding normally costs 1 point and a major 5. Against a Core Clause they cost 2 and 7.
The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit gives the Core Clauses their own attention:
- The Audit Readiness Self-Scoring Workbook works out your projected score and rating on the A2:19 scale
as you log findings, with the Core Clause deductions applied. It withholds the rating until every finding is graded and has an element id.
- The Core Clause Readiness Checklist lists every Core Clause requirement, with columns for readiness,
the evidence you will show, the action if you are not ready, and an owner.
The eleven Core Clauses are: management responsibility (2.1.1), management review (2.1.2), complaint management (2.1.3), approved supplier program (2.3.4), the food safety plan (2.4.3), environmental monitoring (2.4.8), corrections and corrective and preventative action (2.5.3), product identification (2.6.1), allergen management (2.8.1), cleaning and sanitation (11.2.5) and control of foreign matter contamination (11.7.3).
What is new in Edition 10
The Edition 9 to Edition 10 Transition Guide and the Change Impact Workbook walk through what moved, changed or is new, requirement by requirement. The seven new requirements include a food safety culture assessment plan (2.1.1.3), change management (2.3.5.1), records for annual requirements, system operation and food safety programs (2.2.3.3 to 2.2.3.5), and training for the people who run food defense, food fraud, recall and other programs (2.9.1.2 and 2.9.1.3). Each one has a document in the pack.
One site, one story, in every document
The worked examples follow one fictional snack manufacturer: three lines making two granola bars and a cracker, with real allergen decisions (milk, tree nuts, wheat, sesame). A metal detector failure, a consumer complaint about a plastic fragment, a mock recall and an internal audit each keep the same reference number and the same facts wherever they appear: the CCP record, the hold log, the CAPA register and the management review. That is how your own records will need to read at audit.
Workbooks that leave the decisions to you
The 42 Excel workbooks calculate what can be calculated: scores, deductions, due dates, days open, mass balance and summaries. They never mark a record passed, closed or released by themselves. You choose each row’s Status from a dropdown. A Prompt column flags anything missing or out of limit, for example “Enter the date”, “Overdue” or “Status Closed but CAPA ref is missing”, and the summaries count every row you enter.

The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit is 65 Word documents and 42 Excel workbooks. Every file has a branded full-page cover and the same styling throughout. Every placeholder is a [square-bracket] token, such as [Organization Name], so one find-and-replace makes the pack yours.

We do not reproduce the SQF Code
The SQF Code is SQFI’s copyright, and SQFI publishes it free at sqfi.com. The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit cites requirement numbers and short names and describes each requirement in our own words. We check that mechanically: the shipped files were compared against the Code’s text, and no run of words matches beyond element titles. Read the SQF Code itself alongside the toolkit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the SQF Edition 10 Toolkit?
It is 107 editable Microsoft Word and Excel templates for the SQF Food Safety Code: Food Manufacturing, Edition 10: 65 documents and 42 workbooks. They follow the Code’s Part A, Module 2 and Module 11, and every one of the 258 Module 2 and Module 11 requirements is answered by a named document.
When do Edition 10 audits start?
SQFI says not before 2 January 2027, and the start depends on GFSI benchmarking. SQFI also recommends at least 90 days of records before an audit during an edition change (Part A, A2:7), so plan to be running on Edition 10 documents well before your first Edition 10 audit.
We are certified to Edition 9. Is this still useful?
Yes. Start with the Edition 9 to Edition 10 Transition Guide and the Change Impact Workbook. They show what changed against your existing system, so you update what you have instead of starting again.
Which SQF code does it cover?
The Food Manufacturing Code: Part A, Module 2 and Module 11. It does not cover the other SQF codes, such as primary production, storage and distribution, or food packaging manufacture, or the SQF Quality Code.
Does it include the SQF Code itself?
No. SQFI publishes the SQF Code free at sqfi.com. The SQF Edition 10 Toolkit describes each requirement in our own words and cites its number, so you can read the two side by side.
Will this get us certified?
Certification comes from an audit by an SQFI-licensed certification body. The toolkit gives you the documented system and the record templates the SQF Code asks for. Your site still has to run them, keep the records and pass the audit.
What formats are the documents in?
Microsoft Word (.docx) and Microsoft Excel (.xlsx), 65 and 42 respectively. Every file is fully editable, unlocked and unprotected. The workbooks have dropdowns, frozen headers and worked example rows in italic gray that you delete before use.
Where do we start?
With the SQF System Manual and the Edition 10 Gap Assessment and Implementation Plan. The gap assessment tells you which documents you already have an answer for, and the plan counts back from your audit date.
